Sunflower Necklace

Hi!  Bonnie here.  My birthday is coming up and this year I wanted to design a necklace that felt symbolic to me and that I could offer up as a small gift to you.  A sunflower jumped out immediately as the obvious choice.

When I got divorced in 2018 after seven years of marriage and two kids I wasn't sure how life would ever feel normal again, let alone happy, or peaceful.  Was joy possible again?  I got up every morning that hot, sad summer because I had two small children and a small, growing business that needed me. But it felt like my sunshine was gone.

A good friend brought me over a sunflower and told me to plant it.  "Sunflowers are sun worshipers.  They are a hearty plant, not easily knocked down, and they soak up the sun and spread that joy and warmth to those around them.  This plant will remind you what you are capable of withstanding and to seek out the sun and joy that is an innate part of who you are," she told me.

I planted that sunflower in my teeny tiny backyard and every day that summer I watched it grow.  It grew and grew and spread and spread.  Every time I saw it I was reminded of my ability to persevere and the joy still within me- joy that is part of who I am and cannot be taken from me.

It is now my joy (see what I did there?) to bring this small sunflower necklace to you.  My hope is it will remind you of your own capacity for awe-inspiring resilience and deep joy.
